Robert Wilson is coming to the National Theatre to introduce the actress Jacqueline Daskalova to the role of Ariel in his production of The Tempest, which he directed, designed and lit. The world-famous artist's first Bulgarian production premiered at the National Theatre in November 2021 and the show has been part of the institution's repertoire ever since.

Robert Wilson is one of the world's most distinguished theatre and visual artists. His productions distinctively incorporate a wide range of artistic expressions such as dance, movement, lighting, sculpture, music and text, winning acclaim from audiences and critics around the world.

Wilson is also known for the precision in his work, which translates into making his performances look the same as they did on opening night, even if they've already been performed hundreds of times. This is also the reason why Robert Wilson must personally make the necessary changes to the cast of The Tempest.

The cast includes Radina Borshosh, Vasilena Vincenzo/ Jacqueline Daskalova, Valentin Ganev, Vasil Draganov, Nencho Kostov, Veselin Mezekliev, Yavor Valkanov, Stoyan Pepelanov, Plamen Dimov, Zafir Radjab, Konstantin Elenkov, Stefan Kushev, Gergana Zmiicharova, Vyara Tabakvova, Vladislava Nikolova.

The directing, scenic design and artistic lighting in The Tempest are by Robert Wilson, co-directed by Ann-Christin Rommen, costumes, make-up and hair by Yashi, lighting co-directed by Marcello Lumaca, dramaturgy by Jutta Ferbers, co-set design by Marie De Testa and sound design by Dario Felli.

The production has won a number of awards, including the Icarus 2022 Award for Best Performance, an Askeer 2022 nomination for Best Production, an Askeer 2022 nomination for Robert Wilson and Marie De Testa's Set Design, and an Askeer 2022 nomination for Yashi's Costume Design.

Throughout his work, Robert Wilson has collaborated with writers and musicians such as Heiner Müller, Tom Waits, Susan Sontag, Laurie Anderson, William Burroughs, Lou Reed, Jesse Norman, and Anna Calvi, among others.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Pulitzer nomination, two Ubu Awards, a Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and the Laurence Olivier Award. He is a member of the German Academy of Arts and Letters and the Academy of Arts. He holds eight honorary degrees of Doctor Honoris Causa. He is a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Culture (2003) and of the French Legion of Honour (2014). He was awarded the Cross of Merit for his contribution to the culture of Germany (2014).

He is the founder and artistic director of the Watermill Center, an arts laboratory in New York City. "Watermill is unique in the world of experimental art practices. Since 2006. The Center provides year-round facilities where groups and individual artists work on their art.
