In this play Alfred de Musset is cruel to his heroes. He gives them love in just a few seconds. Just a few seconds, Perdican and Camille live like lovers in this world. Then they have to split up – because of Rosette's death, but mostly because of themselves. Love is impossible because of the lovers themselves. Musset’s connection with time is that in our world the past is no longer, and the future has not yet come. The current man hangs in the nothingness and dreames that he loves. Yes, for a second he succeeds, and this is the last living hope.
