There are works having a special mystery about them. What is this mystery? Who knows? I believe that, if anything, it is not a device used inadvertently or advertently by the author. And what is more, I think that it is probably a mystery to the author as well,’ Krikor Azarian’s words reverberate to this day.

‘In my opinion, a criterion for a play’s quality and theatricality is whether or not it is open to multiple interpretations. For there are works marked by a special mystery. Admittedly, such works are more to my liking. While reading, I seem to understand the unfolding events, all my senses come alive, I begin to feel cold or warm, to see colours, being aware, though, of the presence of a “locked room mystery”. I walk about this room, I catch a glimpse of the mystery, we start keeping an eye on each other and I find the key to the future production by finally solving it. What is this mystery? Who knows? I believe that, if anything, it is not a device used inadvertently or advertently by the author. And what is more, I think that it is probably a mystery to the author as well. It is at this point that the characters slip out of the author’s power and control to “live lives on their own terms”.’
