Studied at the Higher Institute of Theatre Arts "Kr. Sarafov" (NATFA) with Metodi Andonov and Neycho Popov, and graduated in 1971 with Lyubomir Kabakchiev. The first professional steps were made on the stage of the Stefan Kirov Dramatic theatre in Sliven.
Since 1973 he has been in the troupe of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. Among his most symbolic theatrical roles are: Brachkov in "Exiles" by Ivan Vazov, Stephen in "Major Barbara" by Bernard Shaw, Kiriak Stefchov in "Under the Yoke" by Ivan Vazov, Juan in "Yerma" by Federico Garcia Lorca, Figaro in "The Marriage of Figaro" by Pierre de Beaumarchais, Brindsley in "Black Comedy" by Peter Shaffer, Trotsky in "The Peace of Brest-Litovsk" by Mihail Shatrov, No. 3 in "Twelve Angry Men" by Reginald Rose, Korean in "The Great Combinator" by Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov, MacLeevy in "Loot" by Joe Orton, the One in "He Who Gets Slapped" by Leonid Andreev, Lazarus in "Wolf Church" by Peter Anastasov, Pato Dooley in "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" by Martin McDonagh, Dragan/Boyan/Oliver's nose in "Larry Thompson" by Dusan Kovachevich, Ethan-Allen Howley and other characters in the monodrama "The winter of our Discontent" after John Steinbeck, the Narrator in "Earthquake" by Andrei Filipov, Joe Gideon in "All that jazz!", the Reasonable one in "The Bus" by Stanislav Stratiev, Dupont-Dufort in "Thieves' Carnival" by Jean Anouilh, Mr. Amilkar in "Monsieur Amilcar" by Yves Jamiaque, George Hay in "Lunatics" by Ken Ludwig, Berrald in "The Imaginary Invalid" by Molière.
In 2000 he made his debut as Theatre director at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre with "Popcorn" by Ben Elton, playing one of the main roles in the performance, the role of Bruce Delamitri. Among his many productions are also: "Black Comedy" by Peter Shaffer, "Where the Streets Have no Names" by Dimitar Zlatinov and "The Orchestra" by Eugene Ionesco in Konstantin Velichkov Drama Theatre in Pazardzhik, "One Present, Two Upside Down" by Dario Fo in Vasil Drumev Drama Theatre in Shumen, "The Rainmaker" by Richard Nash at the Racho Stoyanov Drama Theatre in Gabrovo and others.
Award ASKEER`1991 for supporting male role for the role of No3 in "Twelve Angry Men". Award of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria 1999 for a leading male role for Pato Dooley in "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" by Martin McDonagh.
Award "Unika" of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria in 2004 for "The Winter of Our Discontent" by John Steinbeck.
During this season, on the stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, you can watch Mihail Petrov in the following performances: "Monsieur Amilcar", "Loot", "An Ideal Husband" and also the performances "The Follies of a Day" by Pierre de Beaumarchais and "Company" by Stephen Sondheim (the first joint project between the Ivan Vazov National Theatre and the Plovdiv State Opera), which he directs.
