The performance “THE LOVERS” is expansive and richly expressive because it chooses to employ the expressive means of several arts: dance, music, and spoken word.

It is conceived as a form of “communication” between love letters exchanged across different times and eras by renowned writers, painters, and musicians. Letters filled with painful passion, romantic devotion, spiritual beauty and vulnerability, sensuality and… laughter.

The words of these letters are so powerful that they evoke the dance of bodies, the radiance of Baroque music and singing, even the sound of the original languages in which they were written: Italian, French, German, and English.

For how else could we express the boundlessness of love, if not through the many faces of all the arts and the possibilities they offer us?

Within the indescribably colorful and multi-genre panorama of this great feeling — love — everything matters. Especially when it is named in the words of Victor Hugo, Goethe, George Sand, Frida Kahlo, James Joyce, Robert Burns, Anaïs Nin, Henry Miller…

For this reason, the texts of the letters are spoken, sung, and danced by two couples of lovers, who embody the timeless meaning of epistolary love in a dynamically shifting constellation.

The concept, direction, and choreography of the performance The Lovers are by Mila Iskrenova. The musical concept is by Yosif Gerdzhikov. Set and costume design are by Elitsa Georgieva. Spinet music – Elitsa Stefanova. Featuring actors Bilyana Petrinska, Elena Ivanova, Zhaklin Daskalova, Georgi Zlatarev, and Kaloyan Trifonov.
