DoSEL – Dramaturgy of Minor European Languages
The Ivan Vazov National Theatre is part of the international project DoSEL – Dramaturgy of Minor European Languages, co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. The project is conceived as an ambitious initiative that aims to preserve and promote the dramaturgy of minor European languages and to secure its place on the international stage.
The project is the fruit of cooperation between leading theatre and cultural institutions from Europe, including the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Prešeren Theatre in Kranj, the National Theatre in Zagreb, the Performing Arts Agency in Malta, the Arriaga Antsokhi Theatre and Sala Beckett in Spain, the Estonian Theatre Agency and the National Theatre of Kosovo.
The project will include translations of dramaturgical texts, artistic residencies, training and experimental research in the field of contemporary European dramaturgy. Theatrical performances and drama readings will be presented on special platforms, including the international programme of the Slovenian Drama Week in Kran in March 2025 and the International Theatre Platform in Valletta, Malta, in April 2026.
By the end of the project, in October 2026, a collection of 24 translations of plays created in minor European languages, including Bulgarian, will be published. These dramatic texts will be available in a major European language (English, German or French) and in another minor European language in order to reach a wider audience.
The DoSEL project is another step towards strengthening cultural cooperation in Europe and opening new horizons for Bulgarian drama.
