The new season at the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov” started with a blessing of water ritual. Father Valentin from the “Svety Sedmochislenitsy” Church, invited by the Managing Director Marius Donkin, delivered a prayer for health and well-being of the theatre troupe and the spectators. By tradition, the ritual was administered on the Main stage, where the icon of Virgin Mary was emplaced.
A part of the actors in the troupe of the National Theatre start the new season earlier, as three of the most successful new performances are invited to the “Apolonia” festival in Sozopol. On the 5th, 6th, and 7th September in the community center „Otets Paisiy“ the audience can see „The Lover“ with Deyan Donkov and Radina Kardzhilova, „My Old Lady“ with Maria Stefanova, Emanouela Shkodreva and Mihail Bilalov, and „When Thunder Strikes, the Echo Fades“ with Teodora Douhovnikova, Ivan Yuroukov, Darin Angelov, Radina Borshosh, Bogdan Bouhalov and Nedelin Naydenov.
A forthcoming visit of the performance „My Old Lady“ by Israel Horovitz in France is planned for the 21st September. The performance is directed by Stiliyan Petrov and the cast includes Maria Stefanova, Emanouela Shkodreva and Mihail Bilalov.
The first premiere for the new season will be held on the 26th and 27th September with Nedyalko Yordanov’s play „Whatever Will Be Will Be“ in the Chamber Hall. The cast includes Emilia Radeva, Yanina Kasheva, Ivan Nalbantov, Zhorzheta Chakarova, Liubomir Mladenov, Plamena Getova, Bogdan Glishev, Rout Rafailova, Sava Piperov, Eva Tepavicharova and Hristo Terziev.
On the 29th September and 2nd October, on the Main stage the premiere of the play by Mark Rylance and Louis Jenkins “Nice Fish” will take place.The director is Ivaylo Hristov and the cast includes Marin Yanev, Stefan Mavrodiev, Stoyan Alexiev, Elena Telbis and Plamen Dimov.
On the 2nd September in the Chamber hall started the rehearsal process of Andre Rousin’s play „A Polite Lady in a Bad Company“. Director is Yuriy Dachev and the cast includes Emanouela Shkodreva, Pavel Ivanov, Krastio Lafazanov and Vassil Draganov. The premiere is scheduled for the 7th November. In December, the premiere of Stefan Tsanev’s play “An Angel is Crying” will occur on “Apostol Karamitev” stage starring Nikolay Ouroumov.
The second half of the new season will be dedicated to the 170th Anniversary of the birth of Ivan Vazov, the patron of the National theatre. The literary bureau of the theatre, represented by Yuriy Dachev and Mirela Ivanova, started work on the dramatization of “New Land”, the remarkable but yet neglected novel of Ivan Vazov, considered the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature. The opening is scheduled for 9th July 2020 on the birthday of Ivan Vazov.
