Under the title "Monsieur Amilcare" the play hasn’t come down from the scenes for 20 years in Europe and above all in Russia, where it enjoys numerous productions and big success. In the undefined by the author genre, comedy or drama, the lonely Mr. Amilcare decides to buy feelings and family happiness by hiring a professional actress for a wife, a street prostitute for a daughter, and a poor Parisian painter for a friend. The condition is one – no real feelings whatsoever. Simply theater within a theater.
