Nikolai Gogol (1809 – 1852) is an author, within which sorrow and tragedy are overcome through sparkling laughter. The paradoxes of life, reflected in his whimsical fantasy, are both comic and mystical. Human and otherworldly, people and ghosts intermingle in Gogol’s chorus – the overcoats are vibrant, the portraits alive, and noses stroll along the boulevards. “The essence of humanity is derived irrationally from the chaos of the imaginary realities that objectify Gogol’s world.” (V. Nabokov)

The performance is a new and original take on Gogol’s prose and expands the on-stage perception of the author, as his absurdist humor is revealed by the artists in a way that is captivating with its improvisational power.
